Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a first year teacher this year. It has always been my dream to have my very own classroom. I have been in education for 9 years. I am excited to make a difference in my students’ lives. Nearly all of my students are from low-income households and are transported to my school from all parts of the school district.
My students are fourth, fifth, and sixth-grade students with emotional disturbance.
They work diligently to overcome the challenges of their disabilities and strive to be their best. I know they will challenge me, but I am excited to find ways to help them. I know teaching multiple grade levels to students, who are at, below, and above grade level will be demanding and rewarding at the same time.
When people say "It takes a village...," I have learned that it truly takes a village in order to meet the needs of every student in my classroom. For this reason, I do my best to be creative to provide them what they need and make our classroom a positive, safe, clean and inviting space. A space where they feel happy and want to come to class each day.
My Project
I am a new teacher and would to love to add some new books to our classroom and some hands on learning STEM activities to help grow the minds of my students. Adding STEM activities to my class will help my students work together and promote problem solving skill and communication.
My students love History, they are very interested and adding books about topics that are in our curriculum is just the best thing ever!
Adding more books that capture my students' interests will make them want to read. My goal is for my students to read 20 more books than they started the year out with. If they have books they like we can make this happen.
My students have a hard time working together in pairs or groups. I feel if I had more engaging materials in our classroom will help promote group work and conversations. My students will experience more success and I would create a better more engaged environment for learning.
