Books and Sensory Materials for Students in the Hospital Setting!

My Project

I am a special education teacher and teacher of students with visual impairments in a pediatric hospital setting. I work with students who have complex care needs, sensory impairments, and multiple disabilities, often collaborating with their medical teams and home schools. The majority of the students I work with at their bedside, in their hospital rooms, and I have a wonderful opportunity to work closely with their families. One of the biggest challenges teachers in hospital settings face is in our ability to provide materials to our students that also follow infection control standards. We often can only bring in materials that can be wiped clean with bleach, or new materials we can give to the students. I am requesting Mini LED Flashlights, Paint Markers, books and more.

This project would allow my colleagues and I to gift new children's books and sensory-accessible materials for students with visual impairments and/or multiple disabilities, enhancing our lessons with them, and giving them something to bring home with their families.

Additionally, many of our students' primary and home language is Spanish, so we would like to provide great children's books in Spanish for our diverse learners.
