My students need to expand their scientific boundaries beyond our textbooks and our classroom! The iPads have been great but we need better ways to charge? We need books to challenge and inspire the bright scientific minds that enter my classroom door!
I teach in a public school full of students who are bright, creative thinkers.
Our school has a great expanse of socioeconomic levels but is classified as high poverty. The students value hard work but many will be first generation to go to college!
I want all of my students to have access to great books and technology. They need to read and experience science outside of their textbooks! Please help me bring scientific principles into their lives with intrigue and real world problems!
My Project
As with any other subject, the world of chemistry is made alive by books. Textbooks provide facts but the books I'm requesting make chemistry more personal!
A previous DonorsChoose project provided an iPad. I knew it would be a hit but am amazed at the level of engagement it provides...including more access to books! I received another iPad and so the two docking stations will make the technology available more often and more quickly to my students.
Understanding how science impacts our daily lives is crucial to encouraging an interest in STEM (especially chemistry)!
My project is critical to the development of excellent PBLs (problem based learning) for my college prep students.
Critical thinking skills must be honed and this project will do just that! My students of all ability and socioeconomic levels will get to use current technology and read interesting books about chemistry!
