Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

Our K-2 library is now in its second year of being reopened! My students love to check out books and have had some requests. Sonic and Transformers are popular requests. We have a few of each, but they are always checked out. Adding these books will make my students so happy!

I've also had requests for Jada Jones and Twintuition Chapter Books.

I am glad my second graders are reading more chapter books and both series have African American main characters. As a librarian we often say we try to add books that are mirrors (to see characters like ourselves) and windows (to learn about characters that are different from us.) I have been diligently trying to bring more mirrors for my students in our collection.
