Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Teaching in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with multiple challenges, both in and out of the classroom. I want to create a space for them to thrive, learn, and feel comfortable and safe while at school. I always set them up to learn and push them more each day in fun and exciting new ways. I want to develop a classroom for my students to be creative and have meaningful, learning experiences, and to build lasting friendships.
My students are creative, active, and are always willing to put their best foot forward.
They are learning how to become independent. Spending so much time together, my students know they can depend on both myself, as well as their peers to help them along through the day. I cannot guarantee work will be completed at home, but I can make the most of the time we spend together in school. I try to create a desire to learn and try to get them to challenge themselves on a daily basis. We always try and realize that sometimes we make mistakes and we learn from our mistakes; however if we don't try we cannot learn!
My Project
My students love to have stories read to them. They ask for stories all of the time. There is not enough time in the day for me to read to them as often as they would like.
Having books for a listening center with books of interest will help my students learn and comprehend their favorite stories.
They will have the opportunity to listen to stories over and over again in order to understand the vocabulary with in them. Many of my students do not speak English as a primary language so in school we are building on vocabulary through out the day in all our activities. This center will allow them to be in control and listen to stories to build on the needed foundations for a successful school year. At first they will be listening but eventually they will attempt to read familiar words, follow print and be able to do follow up activities related to the books. Help me build a solid foundation in literacy with the books on CD.
