My Project

y students are from all over the world-Somalia, Rwanda Guatemala, Venezuela, Nepali, Syria, Iraq, Tanzania, Congo, and Uganda to name a few. I have over 10 languages spoken in my classroom. As an ESL teacher, I want to provide my students with books that represent the array of personalities and cultures that are in my classroom.

When students don't feel connected, they won't learn and achieve as much as they should.

These books will give my students a chance to see themselves portrayed in books and will help build a safe and diverse community. Reading is proven to increase comprehension, vocabulary, and writing skills.

Reading for pleasure improves students’ abilities in other content areas like social studies, science, and math. Graphic novels, children's books, and comics will help me engage my most reluctant readers to read and stay engaged in a book.
