Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students attend my resource reading class to bring up their reading levels and be more successful in school and in life. Most of my students have a hard time staying focused while in class, and my goal is to make them feel that they are in a safe learning environment where they don't have to feel judged.
I teach at a Title I middle school in an urban neighborhood.
Seventy-four percent of our students qualify for free or reduced rate lunches. Many come from very technology-poor homes. My students love technology and topics where they can discuss issues and express opinions. My school lacks the technology to meet my students’ needs, and I am concerned that their lack of exposure will not prepare them for the technology fluency requirements in high school. My goal is to create a classroom environment where students are motivated by technology to improve their literacy and communication skills.
My Project
The bookcases requested are needed to help with organization and day to day functionality. My students need bookcases that will hold our classroom library without the books overlapping each other. This will make organization by reading level easier for my students to find books at their reading levels.
The extra bookcases will be used to help organize their classroom binders by class period.
Students will be able to find their binders easier each day they come into the classroom. This will teach students responsibility on how to correctly put away their materials each day in the correct location. As a bonus, the students will learn better organizational skills by making sure the binders are in alphabetical order each day.
