My students are artists, athletes, musicians, and so much more! I teach 6th graders at a middle school in Dorchester. They are in a substantially separate class for learners with communication and language-based impairments. They enjoy reading graphic novels, debating, and discussing social issues.
My students are bright and talented but have to work hard to achieve academic success.
In my class, we focus on using our mistakes as learning opportunities. They are resilient and overcome challenges in and out of school on a daily basis.
My Project
Our classroom library needs a refresh. While I am grateful for the many books that have been donated to my classroom over the years, my students are yearning for more high-interest stories that they are able to access.
My students want to read books about characters they can relate to or learn from stories about people from different cultural backgrounds and with different abilities, as diverse as they are!
These books cover a range of reading levels and interests as well. As striving readers, they need access to high-quality, contemporary, and age-appropriate reading material to become better at reading.
