My students are driven, eager, and excited about school. Many of them look forward to coming to school because they are surrounded by people who love and care for them.
The majority of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch at our Title I school.
Many of their parents work more than one job just to make ends meet. Some of our students are homeless and have no access to basic needs, let alone technology. Some students only spend a few hours with their parents each day. Therefore, I try my best to make my classroom as comforting as possible!
We need our students to be ready for college and their future careers. Without access to technology, they will be left far behind.
My students have come a long way. They have traveled across countries with their families to make a better life for themselves. Many of these students have learned English within the past few years and have had to pass the same state tests in order to graduate as the other students native to America.
I want to give these students a way to tell their story of overcoming obstacles and publish it themselves.
I want them to be proud of their cultural history and proud of their families for going through hardships to make a better life for them. I believe this will give them something else to be proud of and to hand it down to their children as a legacy.
