This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from a diverse background with little to no home support for reading. I’ve slowly started introducing them to the love of literature by reading chapter books aloud to them. Their little minds starting to sink into a good book has been a light bulb teaching moment for me. Watching these kids go from no interest in books to not wanting to put one down has been amazing! Most of these sweet souls are 1-2 years behind grade level and I’m doing everything I know of to get them hooked on books!

My Project

These flexible seats have a variety of uses. Whether I have a student who needs a calming space, reading place or a group gathering spot for book clubs, these will be perfect! Research shows that sitting still at a desk all day isn’t optimal. Every child will have an opportunity daily to access these comfy chairs by rotating through guided reading groups as a workstation involving our strategy of reading to self or reading to others. These seats are mobile and can easily be used in a variety of ways based upon the needs of my students. They will be excited to use this space.
