My students need a comfy Book Nook or Collaboration Station to read and collaborate throughout the day. The benches, stool, and rug will provide the perfect space to do both!
The ten and eleven year old children I teach during the school day are amazing, inspiring, and fun. We work hard to make learning in our classroom productive and enjoyable despite the grueling schedule. It is my ever evolving goal to give everything I can to my students to help provide the most nourishing learning environment as I possibly can.
I want my kids to be comfortable enough in our classroom to share their growth mindsets to become the best people they can be.
This is achieved through various avenues including decor, physical comfort, lighting, and most importantly a safe community of acceptance and care. With our schedule, my kids are itching for activity by the end of the day. They need to have the freedom to move around and feel comfortable in our classroom to help alleviate some of that throughout the day.
My Project
Space is limited in our classroom which means we have to use our space wisely! To have furniture and soft furnishings in our classroom that will serve multiple purposes is ideal. That's where this project comes in! We have hundreds of teacher provided books in our classroom library but no comfy place to enjoy them. We also need a place to collaborate that is a bit larger than a standard desk.
A Book Nook that doubles as a Collaboration Station is the perfect combination and solution!
The benches lined with pillows will be perfect to sit and read. At a different point, the benches will be converted into a table where collaboration in a group can easily happen. Soft furnishings such as the rug help to provide the cozy comfort that we desire when we want our brains to be able to focus and enjoy learning!
