My Project

My students walk into my high school English classroom carrying years of frustration with reading. Many haven't finished a book by choice—not because they can't read, but because no one has handed them the right book yet. They need stories that grab them fast: high-stakes plots, characters who feel real, and pages that turn themselves.

This year, I want to launch student-led book clubs built entirely around high-interest novels—the kind of books teens choose to read, not the kind they're forced to summarize for a quiz.

Book clubs let students choose from a curated selection, read at a natural pace with peers, and talk about what they're reading instead of just proving they read it. For many of my students, this could be the first time a book feels like it was written for them.

With a classroom set of diverse, high-interest titles, we'll build small reading communities where students can find themselves in a story, disagree about a plot twist, and—maybe for the first time—call themselves readers.
