My Students
My students are an inquisitive group of fourth graders who are always ready to step up to the challenge, no matter what it may be. They are creators, writers, builders, thinkers, and readers ready to take on the challenges of being an active learner.
They are highly motivated to read a variety of novels including historical fiction, mystery and realistic fiction.
Having multiple copies of several novels will increase their motivation to read and build relationships with their peers through shared discussions and reading.
This group comes from a small town setting with big city dreams. Many of our students (67%) receive free or reduced rate lunch, but that statistic does not hold them back. They are eager to learn and build on their current knowledge. Reading is just one way I can enhance their knowledge and help them to see that they too can overcome challenges that life may bring.
My Project
The materials I am requesting will feed the appetite of my hungry readers. The novels I have chosen will challenge my top student as well as meet the needs of my average and striving readers. These titles will meet the needs of all my students no matter their reading level.
In addition to reading level, these novels will also help students to better understand characters, struggles and how one can overcome struggles in their lives.
It will give them a chance to all read the same book and have a lively discussion, improving comprehension as well.
