Falling in love with Literacy
My school is located on Chicago's south side.
My children face a lot of challenges when they leave the safety of our school community. Despite all that they may endure, they show up to school every day, ready to learn and grow so that they can be the change that they wish to see in the world. Every day, I am inspired and impressed by their grit and perseverance.
My scholars are excited about learning.
They are excited about learning and they are excited about their future. They are curious and fun. They are loving and friendly. They are critical thinkers and rise to challenges both inside and outside of the classroom. They make mistakes and solve problems. But, above all, they are the future and they deserve a quality education.
My hope is to start a book club and fill my class up with new and exciting books.
My students read an excerpt from "The Uglies" by Scott Westerfield. It was intriguing and my students wanted more. However we only had the small excerpt that was provided to us. After doing some research I found that it is a part of a set a books. I told my students I would like to start a book club so we could read all four books together. They are so exited about getting their hands on the actual books.
If you choose to fund this project my students will have access to a challenging text that we will dissect together.
They will learn how to how engage in scholarly discussions. This will also bring some fun to education. It's hard to find rigorous yet entertaining books. This is a opportunity to how my scholars how fun learning can be.
