This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am a fourth grade teacher in a low-income, high poverty school. My students are 26 fourth graders in a large, urban school district in Ohio. They come to school eager to learn and ready to explore new things but they face many challenges.
They love experiencing new texts and authors during interactive read-aloud and our literacy block.
The books we read always lead to wonderful discussions. They struggle with writing and I am encouraging them to put their thoughts on paper. Spelling is a major barrier when they write.
My Project
This library cart will help us organize our classroom library for an inviting space where students can pick books and find books they love. Giving students the opportunity to pick books from a library increases motivation while increasing reading skills.
When students come to fourth grade they come with great anticipation and love to read.
My responsibility is to give my students the best reading experiences I can. I am dedicated to Literacy best practices and giving them a wonderful space to read.
Giving to our classroom book cart is giving to the reading opportunities for the learners in my classroom. The students will come back time and again to this cart to explore new worlds and discover their favorite books.
