Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Help promote music and literacy! 97 percent of the students I teach come from low- income homes. These are the students who need music the most--so that they have a healthy way to express themselves.

Our school is a low-income school.

However, our students truly enjoy participating in the arts. They just need a little help when it comes to finances! It is a joy to watch these children light up when they are singing or playing an instrument. The arts are a healthy way for them to get out any emotions from day to day life. Our school is primarily Hispanic, so students are not as familiar with traditional nursery rhymes and songs the average American may be. Through the help of song picture books, I am able to teach these songs to the children with a visual aid. This keeps them engaged and interested in participating.

My Project

The children books I have selected range from song picture books to picture books about music. I feel that all are educational and will provide students with an excellent introduction to songs, musical instruments and composers. Some books include poetry that may be turned into a song and allow the incorporation of instruments into the lesson. The books cover many areas and will bring great joy to the students!

This project is very important because it promotes music, literacy and the visual arts all in one!

Children respond so well to visual aids, and this is a great way to educate students about music.
