My Project

All of my students love to listen to and reading books that help broaden their understanding of the world they live in and explore the possibilities of worlds beyond their own. Every day they are exposed to classic literary icons and contemporary characters who educate, humor, and inspire them.

I have the privilege of mentoring an energetic group of second graders who thrive on expanding their knowledge and opportunities.

They come from diverse backgrounds, some with regular exposure to books and stories, others with very little "outside the classroom" experience. They are as varied in their socioeconomic backgrounds as they are in their cultural and ethnic identities, making for a rich opportunity to learn from one another. The skill sets of these eager learners are equally distinct, providing me with an opportunity to challenge students in ways that are individualized and interesting for each child.

Reading is the cornerstone of education and personal growth, and it is crucial to establish a strong foundation in early childhood. Second grade is a pivotal stage in a child's academic journey, as they transition from learning to reading to reading to learning. Ensuring that second graders have easy access to a wide variety of books is essential for their cognitive, emotional, and educational development. By emphasizing the significance of making books readily available to second graders, this project aims to create a lasting impact on their educational journey, fostering a lifelong love for reading and learning.

I believe the titles I have chosen in this project will be of interest to a variety of children with assorted academic skills and can help my students increase their exposure to a variety of authors, ideas, and narratives, while at the same time allowing them the freedom to direct their own learning.
