My Project

Our school uses the Accelerated Reader (AR) program to strengthen students’ reading skills, comprehension, and stamina by promoting daily independent reading. Through individualized goals, a points system, and short comprehension quizzes, AR motivates our K–5 students to read books at their instructional levels.

I propose using project-funded materials to create a classroom “Book Boulevard” — a prominently displayed, roadway‑themed progress tracker that visually celebrates students’ achievements in the AR program.

When students select and read books at their instructional level, they complete a brief comprehension quiz that awards points based on book level and quiz performance. Each student has an established individualized AR target, and their name (VW bus) will move along the Boulevard as they earn points. The display will include milestone markers (traffic cones) so learners and families can easily monitor progress. Designed to foster ownership of reading growth, Book Boulevard will integrate with regular conferencing, small-group instruction, and family communications to support sustained motivation and targeted literacy development.
