Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have the best students in the world! My school is located in a high-need community. Most of my students receive free breakfast and lunch. I have students from all different countries. My wonderful students come to school with a smile on their faces, ready to learn.

Although they struggle with extreme home situations, they often want someone to guide them into learning.

I enjoy coming to work each day and seeing their smiling faces. Some students' home lives are a bit more chaotic, which leads to a high transient rate. Despite the many obstacles that surround them, they love to learn. Quite a few of my students come from unstable homes, so the classroom needs to be the one constant in their life. They need to feel safe and provided for. They are sweet children that want to have fun and learn in a peaceful, fun classroom. I want to make that available for them!

My Project

Last year, I watched my students fall in love with reading when they were offered engaging stories that interested them. However, I found myself running around trying to find the books they wanted to read since I did not have those series in my classroom. This year I would love to surprise my students with the favorite books series they love but that I don't have in our classroom library.

As a teacher I feel it is my duty to encourage them to read; they are excited and eager to read.

I need to find a way to get books that they want to read in our classroom library. I am confident that if they are provided with books they want to read they will become super readers!
