My Project

Every year our school district hosts a program for 4th and 5th grade students called Battle of the Books.

Students are required to read all 8 of the books from the required reading list and form teams of 4.

Students will work on reading these books (Odder, This Very Tree, A Rover's Story, etc.) throughout the year in preparation for the end-of-the-year comprehension competition. This is actually much more than just a competition. Students are working on building fluency, reading comprehension, vocabulary, and leadership, and gaining experiences in working in a team that will help them in the future. I want all of my 4th and 5th-grade students to be able to participate in this program. I was able to use my fundraising money to purchase copies of 5 of the titles for the 2024-2025 competition, but would love some help in making our collection of books complete so we are able to provide copies for our students to borrow from our library to read and compete.
