My students love to work together in pairs and groups. They love to share their thinking with each other and the whole class. They love seeing the various ways each person can answer a math problem. Boogie Boards will be an environmentally friendly way of doing that!
Our middle school is a diverse high-needs school of about 1,400 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students.
Almost 50% qualify for free or reduced rate lunch. Many of our students receive services, including ESL, special education, and academic intervention. Despite many obstacles my students face, they are are hard working, passionate and enthusiastic about learning.
My Project
We are currently using white boards, dry erase markers and erasers to have students explain their thinking when solving math problems. The 15 Boogie Board will allow us to accomplish the same goal without the waste and cost of the markers. It is an environmentally friendly alternative. The Boogie Boards are extremely motivating and will engage students who normally do not actively participate. It will encourage more students share their thoughts and ideas.
This project will help more students become more willing to collaborate and share their ideas.
It will also eliminate the amount of waste we currently have due to makers running out so quickly.
