Boogie Into Third Grade With Alternative Writing Tools

My Students

My students are third graders in a year round school in Raleigh, NC. Due to our multi-track year round schedule, many of these students have been together for over three years, making our classroom environment feel like that of a family. They are an energetic group of 7-9 year olds who learn best through hands-on kinesthetic experiences.

My students come from a variety of diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Each one has different social and educational experiences that make up their individual schemas. Together they make a unique classroom environment of engaged, enthusiastic and eager learners!

My Project

My third grade students use personal whiteboards with dry erase markers on a daily basis. While these are an awesome alternative to traditional paper and pencil, they are still fairly costly and not economically friendly due to the constant replacing of dry erase markers. Boogie Board writing tablets are an eco-friendly and exciting alternative to these old, tired products.

While third graders are excited about learning and love to explore new ideas, they are not very good about replacing caps on dry erase markers!

On average, our classroom will go through approximately 100 dry erase markers in a school year. This is a large amount of waste for our environment and is very costly. Boogie Board Writing Tablets do not require any consumable materials to be used.

Additionally, while whiteboards were new and exciting in kindergarten, by third grade they are old news. The students love having ways to show their thinking, while easily erasing mistakes. The Boogie Board Writing Tablets will be a new and improved way for them to do this.

As a teacher, I use whiteboards daily during all subject areas to quickly gain feedback from my students learning. I would love to have an alternative tool, such as the Boogie Board Writing Tablets, that will be less costly to my personal budget and better on the environment.
