My Students

I work with wonderful kindergarten intervention students! Most of my students are English Language Learners and/or are considered economically disadvantaged. Many of the students in my school live in very challenging living conditions. My students are typically youngest in their grade level and sitting during lessons proves to be difficult for many of them. I am always looking for new ways to keep my students engaged in lessons. My students are motivated to learn but sometimes have a hard time staying focused on the task. I work with our staff, the students themselves and their families to come up with ideas to help them improve as readers, writers and mathematicians. The students love finding tools that can help to make learning easier and more exciting!

My Project

This is a kid-inspired project! I was able to receive enough Boogie Boards (e-writers) to use with half of my students during small group lessons. They were such a success that students were begging to use them during large and small group activities. The Boogie Boards allow the students to follow along smoothly during lessons without the mess of using dry erase boards and markers or wasting paper. The children think they are so cool and absolutely wanted me to try and get enough that I would have one for every student in my class.

The Boogie Boards will provide an exciting way for students to follow along with me while I teach lessons with the Smart Board.

For example, if I am teaching them a new letter or number, students could follow along by writing the same letter or set of objects to go with a number on their own Boogie Board, while I do the same on the Smart Board. I can also use these boards for small group or one-on-one time for more intensive interventions. Students will be able to practice numbers, making sets, letters, sight words and much more! I cannot wait to have a full class set so I can incorporate the Boogie Boards in to more lessons, centers and interventions!
