My students are bright, creative, resourceful, eager, and dedicated to learning. They are full of wonder, hope, and curiosity. They come to me for instruction in Take Flight, a comprehensive intervention program for students with dyslexia. However, dyslexia is no match for my students' drive to become successful readers. My students and I have discovered that a multisensory approach to reading is the key to remapping neurological pathways in a student with dyslexia or characteristics of dyslexia.
As a Reading Specialist, I not only believe that all children can learn to read, I also believe that it is my duty to turn that dream into a reality.
It is my job to equip my students with the tools they need to become independently literate. However, I am constantly learning as much from them as they are from me.
My Project
Students with dyslexia need a multisensory approach when learning to overcome the challenges they face in reading. Boogie Boards provide a motivating, visual-tactile experience when learning to connect sounds to symbols through spelling. They will be used in activities such as alphabetic principle, cursive letter formation, sound/symbol connections, and phonetic coding and decoding.
Besides their many educational benefits, Boogie Boards add student engagement to any lesson.
Boogie Boards provide better tactile feedback when writing to encourage the development of fine motor skills. Plus, they save on paper and ink, and can be used year after year. Boogie Boards can be used in any grade, with any level of reader.
