Help me give my students positive ways to move their bodies with sensory pathways, filter out distracting fluorescent lights, and overall regulate their behavior and emotions while at school!

My Students

I am an occupational therapist and I support students in all types of classrooms with a range of abilities and disabilities from mild to severe. My students are working hard on things like holding a pencil, handwriting legibility, communication, self-regulation, attention/focus, and behavior.

We have a dedicated team of special education teachers and staff that supports our exceptional students, and I am hoping to gather more materials so that I can provide the tools our teachers need to bring out our students' full academic potential as well as to promote wellness and independence in everyday activities.

Our students come from a range of socio-economic backgrounds and many of our families can't afford extra supplies that will help their kids thrive, and that is not covered by the district budget. Thank you for helping my students, teachers, and families!

My Project

I hope to use these materials such as the sensory pathways, fluorescent light covers, hand fidgets, and bean bag chair, to set up safe spaces in the classrooms where students can take a break when they are feeling overwhelmed, or need an outlet to move their bodies without leaving the classroom. I will laminate visual choice boards for teachers to use with students so that they can easily learn to use these simple tools to regulate their brain and body chemistry every day. In addition, I will use the handwriting tools such as graph paper and the legiliners with students who have a hard time organizing their letters and words on paper so that their teachers can read what they seek to express through writing

These tools will empower my students to become more independent with regulating their bodies and emotions so that ultimately teachers can spend more time on teaching and less time managing disruptive behaviors and distracted learners.
