Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Students are excited about learning and coming to school every day. One of the biggest goals in our school and classrooms is to instill lifelong learning and provide them with a safe and enriching environment
My classroom is composed of students from many different backgrounds, skill levels, talents, and learning styles.
Students come to school enthused and willing to explore new ideas. They are inquisitive and want to know about everything, and the best part is that they are very willing to look for answers themselves with proper guidance.
Our school is a Title I school with students from K-8 and I take pride in that my students share their supplies willingly with other classrooms. Our classroom includes English language learners of various English proficiency levels, foster youth, and students with Special Needs. Within our school and classroom, you'll find leaders treating each other with respect and willing to help each other achieve despite their differences. Students are focused on helping each other succeed and acknowledging their similarities. We work hard to give the students the best education possible. In our classrooms, you will find the leaders of today and tomorrow.
My Project
Students are always looking for ways to spend their time with each other, especially on days when we have inclement weather and they have to stay inside. In the area were we live, inclement weather can either be that it's raining or that it's too hot!
Board games, when chosen appropriately, can ensure that students not only synergize but also continue to enhance their skills in academic areas such as math.
There is nothing students love more than to bring out a board game on an indoor recess day, and as their teacher there is nothing I love more than watching them learn. The board games in this project make this a win-win for students and myself. The board games all have either academic or social skills embedded and will make a great resource in our classroom. For example, scrabble is an excellent way for students to build their vocabulary skills as well as spelling. As they play, they compete to have the longest words, and if encouraged will be pulling out a dictionary as well! Not only will they be practicing their vocabulary and spelling but they will also bring their math skills into play when they need to total their points AND their critical thinking skills will kick in when they develop strategies to get more points on the board. In addition, board games like monopoly will provide number and money sense and well as provide an opportunity for synergy and communication. Board games can be very enriching when used in the right setting and guided correctly.
