Board Games - Building Social Skills in Early Childhood

My Project

A lot of learning takes place through play, and while games-based learning on screens has its place, getting out a board game has significant benefits for kids – both socially and academically. Board games benefit kids' brains and language development by helping children learn important social skills such as waiting, turn-taking, sharing, how to cope with losing, making conversation, problem-solving, compromising, collaborating, and being flexible.

Board games also encourage players to detect patterns, plan, predict the outcome of alternative moves, and learn from experience which build academic skills necessary to be successful in elementary school and beyond.

My goal with this project is to increase the types of games available to my students. Incorporating games into each themed unit will help reinforce what we are learning in class while also extending social skill development. Most of all, it keeps learning fun!
