Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are scheduled to go back to school in September. If someone is diagnosed with the Coronavirus, the class will be required to quarantine. At some point, our school may shut down as it did last March. We just don't know what the future will look like.
I would like to provide my preschoolers with similar learning materials at school and at home to allow for a smooth transition of learning between our classroom and remote learning.
I teach in a preschool classroom in a public school. It is comprised of two half-day blended classrooms. Each classroom has a mix of both three- and four-year-olds. There are 15 students in each class that includes both regular and special education students.
My students are eager to learn and play. Our school is limited in funding for materials. We are considered low-income with 93% of our students receiving free lunches. Ten percent of our students are considered English language learners.
My Project
I miss my preschoolers being at school! I especially miss my preschoolers at "Book Browse Time." This is the time of day where the children would pick a book of their choosing!
Board books help preschoolers to learn how to handle a book properly and how a book is read!
Board book are sturdy and just the right size for little hands to manipulate. You can say that this is the genesis of learning how to read a book! The children will "read" the pictures or ask someone to read the book to them! This is how my preschoolers learn how to turn a page, how read a picture to help tell the story, and where to begin reading! I want to be able to send these books home and have the children read them with their families. I picked some tried and true titles that I know that the children will love to learn how to read. The titles include: "Brown Bear Brown Bear," "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom," and "The Okay Book." This is where it starts and it is a very important first step to learning how to read!
