Help me give my students suitcases so they can provide children in transition with a safe, respectful way to carry their belongings.

My Project

A suitcase can be an essential tool for students and families who are facing transitions, emergencies, or housing instability. Too often, children are forced to carry their belongings in plastic bags or boxes when moving between homes, shelters, or temporary living situations. This can be stressful, unsafe, and damaging to their sense of dignity and stability.

Through this project, my students will lead a student-driven community service initiative inspired by The Allstate Foundation’s Service Stars missions.

Students will organize and host a “Pack with Purpose” suitcase donation drive, collecting and assembling suitcases filled with comfort and essential items for children and families in need. Each suitcase will include items such as hygiene supplies, socks, school supplies, and encouraging notes written by students.

The community we seek to serve includes families in our school community and surrounding neighborhood who are experiencing housing insecurity, emergency relocation, or foster placement. By providing suitcases, we are giving these children and families a more organized, safe, and respectful way to transport their belongings. This initiative will help students understand how service can improve lives beyond the classroom while building compassion, leadership, and community responsibility.

The materials requested—suitcases—will be the foundation of this service project. They will allow students to pack and deliver supplies in a meaningful and practical way, creating a complete “starter suitcase” for each recipient. Suitcases are durable, reusable, and can support families long after the initial donation, making them a high-impact resource for community service.

This donation will empower students to lead an initiative that provides dignity, organization, and real support to families who need it most.
