This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a School Social Worker at an urban high school. Many of my students persevere through numerous challenges such as generational trauma, mental illnesses, anxiety, depression, and learning disabilities. Despite these obstacles that can hinder their education, I know my students are strong individuals who strive to do their best despite the barriers that they face with mental health issues. Headphones are proven to improve focus and reduce distractions for schoolwork; while bluetooth speakers and charging stations can help reduce anxiety and provide a sense of comfort in and out of the classroom. Technology has dramatically improved the way students learn and grow in the classroom.

I am continuously working with students to make them more engaged with their social-emotional learning by providing headphones and bluetooth speakers so it can be an equitable learning environment.

This will give our students a chance to adjust to a learning style that fits and allows them to be more comfortable in their learning environment. Many of our students struggle to find ways to focus and paying attention so these devices can allow more opportunities for success.
