Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a STEM school; focusing on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Our students are enthusiastic learners, full of energy to grab the next bit of knowledge. They come from a lower socio-economic background; many on free/reduced-price lunch programs. Technology for some is only an in-school opportunity. Many of our students do not have the outside resources to afford technology aside from school.

The eye of Hurricane Irma passed directly over our school; now we are receiving students fleeing from Hurricane Maria.

Being away from our internet and practice time really hit us hard. My kids love to work online to stretch their math skills. We are fortunate to have adaptive software that will meet them at their specific level of learning and grow with their ever-expanding knowledge. Whether they are advanced or in need of remediation, the software meets them at their level. The use of this software reached a huge portion of our kids a year ago; driving up test scores.

After Hurricane Irma, the power surges and leaky roof caused some serious damage to our technology. I am hoping to give them back their full technology/math experience.

My Project

With all the changes we have experienced in our classroom, new technologies and new students, the kids need more time to help them concentrate on their lessons.

We made it through Hurricane Irma and now experiencing growth from students fleeing hurricane Maria affected areas.

With the extra bodies in the classroom, it makes it increasingly hard to focus on the lessons.

The tools they have, iPads with interactive software, meet them at their individual levels (high or low). For these tools to be effective, they need to block out the room noise and concentrate on their work.

Headphones will dampen the room noise and help them focus.
