As we are progressing towards a future centered around technology, one of my biggest aims is to expose my students to more programs that will enhance their learning. Unfortunately, many of our computers are broken or outdated, making them more burdensome than beneficial to use.
Many do not have books in their home, and many do not have the opportunity to go much farther than their home area.
Some of them even see computers as only reserved for the "smart" or "rich" kids, because they do not own a computer or have Internet access in their homes. Because of this, they are always the ones that are most excited and motivated whenever they get the chance to use technology.
My Project
Having five Chromebooks in my classroom will allow me to create a mini-computer lab in my room. This will be a highly multi-functional area: students will be able to access this during station work, collaborate with each other on projects and research, and spend more time learning and creating instead of trying to fix problems or waiting for programs to load.
We will be using these Chromebooks to practice literacy and math skills, carry out project-based learning with a foundation of science and social studies topics, and publish writing and research projects in creative, individualized ways.
Students without computer and Internet access at home will especially benefit from this project because they will not have to feel like they are at a disadvantage compared to their peers.
