This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I serve as an educator at Bonnabel High School. Last year, our parish consolidated several schools into others to minimize expenses and administrative burdens. As a result, our student enrollment surged from 1,200 to 2,400 almost instantly. However, despite the doubling of our classes and student body, funding has not increased correspondingly. Each year, high school students participate in LEAP testing, ACT Work-Keys, ACT, CLEP, and the ELPT for English Language Learners.

Our newly appointed testing coordinator has discovered that accommodating a doubled student population necessitates an equivalent increase in testing supplies.

During testing sessions, our testing administrators and proctors utilize storage bags for cell phones and other prohibited electronic devices. These devices must be collected and securely stored throughout the testing period. Each student requires a specific zipper bag for their personal items during this time. Additionally, we use these storage bags for essential items such as pencils, sticky notes, timers, and dry erase markers. Unfortunately, this marks the second consecutive year that we have faced shortages of these necessary supplies.

Ensuring effective testing and maintaining security during assessments is of utmost importance at our school. Over 70% of our student body consists of English Language Learners. Our institution is situated in a low socio-economic area, where all students receive state-funded free breakfast and lunch. Providing these testing supplies would greatly assist both our staff and students in facilitating a smooth testing process.
