Blasting Off into Physics!

My students need the "Rocket Boys" novel and the straw rocket kits. I would utilize the teacher's guide for the straw rockets to further students' understanding of physics, design, and engineering concepts.

My Students

My desire is to instill a love of learning in all of my students. Most are naturally curious, driven, and they inspire me to give 100%. My students live in a small suburban area, and our district serves many low-socioeconomic students. My school doesn't qualify for Title I funding, so we do not receive additional funding for supplies, technology, etc.

How do we bridge the gap for these kids in the middle?

You! The community is critical in making sure our future scientists, leaders, and dreamers have opportunities to succeed! Thank you, in advance, for your support and your belief that my students will make a difference!

My Project

We will be using the "Rocket Boys" novels in my Pre-AP (advanced placement) science classes. Students will be discovering science concepts through literature, inquiry, and hands-on activities throughout the unit.

What a fantastic way to bring science to life!

This experience will bring a unique twist to traditional science concepts.

During our readings, we will discuss physics concepts. We will also cover additional science concepts, such as scientific design and experimentation, engineering, mathematics, and more! We will follow up with straw rocket launches. Students will discover the most effective designs for their rockets, apply physics concepts, collect and analyze data, and communicate their results through graphing and mathematic analysis. .
