My Students

When you're young, the solar system seems to be a very mysterious place. It is hard to get students to understand what is outside of our world.

My students are faced with the struggle of high poverty.

Some of our students are enrolled in the backpack program that a local church provides because their parents do not have much food at home. 54% of the student population is in the free or reduced lunch program. I teach 18 third grade students where 13 of them are ESL students who speak another language at home. Their ages range from 8-10 years old. Our school is a Title I public elementary school with about 700 students ranging from grades PreK-6.

My Project

The solar system is a major component in our science curriculum. As our district moves toward teaching the new Common Core curriculum, we need materials to teach the "why" in scientific topics. These materials will give my students the chance to explore and understand what else is out there. Please, help my students get hands-on materials to learn about our solar system, phases of the moon and properties of the Earth.

With your generous donations, you will be helping students be able to explore and understand important concepts of the solar system.

These will be used as whole group lessons as well as center activities.
