My Students
My students are in the Philadelphia Public School District and I teach Geography as well as American History. I would like to engage my students through their interest in history and I want to do so with more hands-on projects and interactive classroom stations. My students work very hard and are eager to learn.
I am creating a more modern classroom library so that my students may enjoy engaging reading experiences that included many different topics in history.
Students will enjoy independent reading as well as group reading and discussions regarding the History of the United States, Women in History, Black Americans in History, Space Travel, Biographies, Mythology, and past and current event novel series chapter books.
I want my students to have space to make hands-on history art projects so that it reinforces their learning experience and gives a tangible focus for the lessons. Through these reflective and hands-on projects, I hope to make American history geographical education more tangible for my PBL students.
Students always learn better when they can relate to the subject and have something tangible to see and do. Art and libraries with modern chapter books are directly related and tangible.
My Project
Students will enjoy independent reading as well as group reading and discussions regarding the History of the United States, Women in History, Black Americans in History, Space Travel, Biographies, Mythology, Art, Hand Crafts, quilts, and past and current event novel series chapter books.
The selected chapter books will help students with a curriculum that is rich in black history through art as well as standard Philadelphia Social Studies Curriculum.
Student will see how slaves communicated in the underground railroad through art to gain their freedom and how that became art that has been passed down through generations.
