The students in our Head Start program are amazing and creative artists! They thoroughly enjoy the process of creating. Whether they end up with beautiful works of art, or just painting their hands and getting messy, the children have a lot of fun in the Atelier (art studio). They are eager to explore, learn, build, and express themselves in a variety of ways. Interesting materials that provide unique textures and experiences interest the children very much and inspire wonderful creations! Many of the children are very hands-on and enjoy provocations that are vibrant and that use real-life objects they may have never encountered before. We have 8 classrooms in our building and all of them have the chance to visit bi-weekly to create and explore!
Recently I have noticed many of the children in our classrooms are interested in birds. I would like to create an artist study on birds for the children to explore. During each classroom's visit to the art studio, I will provide interesting images of different types of birds along with various materials and mediums. A few of these may be painting, drawing, collaging, gluing, cutting, sculpting, and mixed media. Some of the supplies that would be amazing to see how the children use are: natural and colored feathers, pigment markers, watercolors, pens, marker and watercolor paper, beads, and wire. I am excited to find out where the children take this study!
