Our K-5 students are anxious to begin work on their new bird, blooms, and butterfly habitat. With the garden tools, they will work the soil, then plant flowers butterflies will love! They also plan to build bird houses with the help of high school industrial arts students.
Our students are a caring group of children that are devoted to nature and would like very much to create an environment conducive to birds, blooms, and butterflies.
They have been researching types of plants and types of soil needed for their project. Much time and effort has been put into the planning and drawing of the garden. They are now shovel ready!
My Project
Outside the classroom windows at our school is a bare, undeveloped 3500 sq. ft. of land that the students have decided to turn into a garden area, where they hope to attract all kinds of birds and butterflies, both native and migratory. By researching the needs of the plants, birds, and insects, students will have a better understanding of how to develop their project with greater success. The materials they ask for will help get things rolling and off to a good start!
Many of our students live in apartment and condominiums complexes that leave little or no availability to keep in touch with nature in a meaningful way.
Our garden will bring these students face to face with plants and creatures that will instill an appreciation for wildlife and its preservation of habitat.
