This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students love to learn by doing. We are studying birds by creating a hospitable environment for them. We learned about electricity by creating it. Everyday is a learning adventure. We are rarely at desks quiet by researching, sharing and interacting our knowledge with each other through projects

I have 18 students in .

It is primarily a Hispanic area with financial struggles. Most of the kids came into 4th grade at least a year behind in academics. This is an important year for them to catch up and keep up. It try to keep learning busy, fun and the kids love owning their learning. They create the big projects by writing proposals and we vote on the best and most realistic one. My school is a "priority school". Five percent lowest performance in the state. Many of my kids do not have their basic needs met at home and we do all we can for them at school. I have caring, smart, loving students. I adore them and want to give them everything they need to enjoy the rest of the school year.

My Project

They will be studying ecosystems of birds in Science. They will study their living habits, journal their behavior and maintain the hospitable living environment that we will create. The students will also photograph the birds and create a book about all the birds they learned about. The materials requested are bird-feeders and seeds that will attract a large variety of birds species that live and seek food in Central New Jersey. The students will actually see the birds we have begun to study and be able to notice their habits first hand.

Kids learn more by doing and interacting with their learning.

This project will provide knowledge that will stay with them forever. They created this project themselves and being able to follow through will empower them to propose more ownership of their learning and life!
