Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Our new Biological Arts Design course works on this principle, combining Biology, Anatomy and the arts into a hands-on STEAM-based course where students create scientific sculptures for "Face-Off" style make-up effects.
Our student body cuts across many socio-economic levels and cultural backgrounds, including many Title I and minority students.
Our students vary in achievement as well, with both "top-notch" kids that move on to four year and even Ivy league schools right after graduation, and other students that struggle with grades and have to work after school to help support their families.
Students at our school have a strong interest in the arts stemming from our popular Arts Academy, and so enjoy having visual learning as part of any curriculum. Our Biological Arts Design class is set up for our students so they can explore the ideas of biology and anatomy and apply it in a sculptural way to movie-style special effects including prosthetic effects and masks, etc. This style of learning lets students see and learn in a hands-on way the effects of disease, genetic mutation, the aging process, etc.. by creating sculptures of these principles using themselves as models.
My Project
As part of a STEAM-curriculum we draw from many sources to inspire our students. This text is the best in the industry for demonstrating the numerous techniques we use in the course from sculpting, mold making, casting and painting.
Featuring make-up by many of the top talents in the field include Greg Nicotero (The Walking Dead), Ve Neil (The Hunger Games, Batman Returns) and Jordu Schell (Planet of the Apes) these texts would provide my students with the invaluable technical knowledge they need from working professionals. Praised universally by experts in the field for its thoroughness and in depth pictorials and instructions, this book could serve as the textbook for the artistry needed to bring the principles of biology to life.
Students will be able to preview and study the concepts and techniques they will need to succeed and push their own creativity by seeing how the top industry talent performs their amazing effects.
As part of a STEAM-based program, this text will show students how top industry professionals create their amazing realistic and artistic effects.
It will clearly show them how they can create these same effects by applying these processes in a step-by-step process to ensure student success. Finally, it will also help them in building a high-quality entry level portfolio to demonstrate readiness for a college makeup program or a career in the effects industry.
