My Students

My AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) students come from diverse backgrounds, are in the academic middle, may experience the struggles of poverty, and may be​ the first in their family to go to college. These students need just a little bit of support to excel in rigorous coursework and that is what AVID provides. Organization is a skill that all students will need in their future college endeavors.

The AVID curriculum is centered around five big rocks: Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading.

These big rocks help my students prepare to be college and career ready. As the school year goes by, the students need new binders and supplies. Since many of them come from low-income households, it is difficult for families to provide the supplies multiple times each year. I would love to have additional binders and supplies on hand for students to purchase with the school money that they earn for showing respect, responsibility, being ready to learn, and rethinking their actions.

My Project

By this time in the school year, my students' binders are starting to fall apart! They are unable to afford replacements. I run a student leadership club after school. I train the club members to run an Organization Station at lunch one day a week. At this station, students from the whole school can use the fake money that they earn for good behavior to buy new supplies to help them be organized and improve their education.

My club members need additional materials to "sell" at lunch (binders, pencils, erasers, dividers, etc.).

Please help me supply the Organization Station to help all students at my school!
