This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in a 1st grade dual language class where my students absolutely love reading and finding new books. They love "read aloud time" and get very excited when they see new books in our classroom library.

Bilingual students build skills that support them while learning two languages.

As bilingual learners, it is very important that they are exposed to different genre books in both English and Spanish. I love seeing my students use their bilingual skills to overcome obstacles and continue to progress with a growth mindset. I cannot wait for an amazing year with my 1st graders!

My Project

These books will add to my bilingual classroom library, providing students with more resources to build their language skills (in both Spanish and English). I want my classroom library to have multiple genres of text, ranging in different reading levels, so all of my students have books they can enjoy and explore. Now that I have had time to get to know my students, I have chosen books that interest them and are at their reading levels.

With these books, students will have an opportunity to read books that they enjoy while growing their interest in reading.

My students have already shown such a huge interest in reading and I want to provide the best classroom library I can to further grow their interest. By adding more Spanish books to my classroom library, my students will have a chance to read independently through more books and get exposed to multiple genres of text.
