Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach a bilingual second grade class. There are 23 students whose parents want them to truly be bilingual and bi-literate; That is my goal as well. Some of the students in my class are tri-lingual! I want to make sure I have enough books for them to engage in and enjoy reading.

We use the Accelerated Reader program which focuses on reading comprehension.

My classroom library has a good amount of English reading books, but not enough Spanish/bilingual or multicultural books. I would like to use these funds to add a variety of books.

Students in this class really enjoy reading. Adding more books to the library would add more interest in reading.

My Project

Students will have more opportunities to read books that interest them. They can find books at their reading level. We visit the library once a week but we have avid readers that need new books on a daily basis. Having the books at hand and being able to share them with their classmates makes it more exciting. Students have individual book bags where they can store up to 10 books. Some students like to keep the same book throughout the school year- not allowing others to read it! Having more than one copy of a book can also be helpful
