I love my students! I am the English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher in my school. My students work hard, love learning and make enormous educational gains every year. I am so proud of them. The piece that is missing is including their families in our school programs because it can be difficult to communicate with the language barrier. This program will reach out to our students and their families in their native language and help them feel welcome in our school! My students shine when they are successful and with their parents more involved, establishing a reading routine at home, they will only be more and more successful academically!
My Project
When a student's family is involved in their education, they, too become more involved and successful in school. This important family program provides an opportunity for Latino families to become involved at school while they are becoming accustomed to America and learning English.
The Latino Family Literacy Project Elementary Library Semester 1 will focus on reading in both English and Spanish, teach parents basic English, provide students with an opportunity to enhance their vocabulary and receive additional reading support.
Entire families will feel welcome and loved in our school when they join our weekly bilingual literacy class! Students will feel an extra bond from the commitment of their teachers and community when they participate in the program. The community will benefit from the program in its entirety when parents become involved in school, enhance their English skills, and promote success for their children. Thank you for contributing to our program!
