Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am requesting bilingual books and Bob Books for my newcomer kindergarten students.
I believe the more my newcomer students listen to and enjoy reading (in either language), the more their overall literacy skills will develop and strengthen in both languages.
The bilingual books that I have chosen for my newcomer students are mostly folktales. These stories have been told and retold in many different languages, so some of my students have already heard them.
My newcomer students have just arrived to this country. Although they are not reading yet, they look forward to listening to stories over and over again in their native language, which in turn will strengthen their literacy even further through repeated exposure.
I am also requesting Bob Books because they are simple, phonics books that will help encourage my newcomer students to read, by giving them confidence to learn new short words.
