Next year our classes are moving from 43 minutes to 70 minute periods. High school students (and their teachers!) know that's a long time to stand whether you're 8, 18, or 38.

While 70 minutes is a long time, these desks would make the time adaptable for students in all varieties: students with learning disabilities, students with socioeconomic barriers, students who love reading, students who struggle with writing, students who speak English as a second language -- the list goes on.

But standing desks that move are an equalizer that give students an element of ownership in what THEY need to be successful. It's only one item with so many possibilities.

These movable standing desks will give my high school students the option to grab one for their work time when they've been sitting too long and need to get a stretch or some movement into their class period -- this isn't just good for a subset of students -- this is just plain good for all kids of ALL ages and needs. Because they're movable, students will be able to move these desks to work in small groups, independently, or to a space accommodating to their needs (including our outdoor spaces!).

I'm excited that as a Language Arts teacher, I can give my students freedom of movement whether reading or writing! For example, during a Writer's Workshop, groups of four could grab a standing desk to go work in our outdoor space, or my students with ADHD could stand while reading and do so comfortably.

This mobility option supports all of the diverse learning needs and styles fostering increased opportunities for success in the classroom.
