My Project

Each December, our Pre-K through 8th grade students take the stage for an annual music and dance show, bringing a semester’s worth of hard work, passion, and creativity to life. Throughout the fall, students learn to sing and play chords and melodies across an array of instruments - including ukulele, guitar, keyboard, bass guitar, and various drums - while integrating individual talents that students may already be working on (we've had violinists, saxophonists, and trumpeters perform, and we hope to keep adding to that list!). Throughout each song, brave students step forward to sing solos, duets, and trios, building confidence and showcasing their courage.

This year, we want to take our music beyond the stage and across the street to a nearby senior living community.

In addition to performing what they've worked so hard on for the residents, students will sit side-by-side with them to teach them how to play the songs, too.

Our students will be partnering with residents in assisted living and memory care, including people living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. As a school, we will visit multiple times, giving various grades (from Pre-K through 8th) a chance to share and teach their music. Music holds a unique power for individuals in memory care, often remaining accessible even when other faculties fade. Using lightweight, portable keyboards labeled with clear note markers and half-sized guitars adapted for all physical needs, our students will serve as gentle mentors. As students and residents practice, play, and perform side-by-side, they will create a lasting connection that transcends age and fills each heart with joy!
