My Project

My self-contained elementary classroom serves students with autism and diverse learning needs who thrive with hands-on learning, visual supports, movement opportunities, and highly structured classroom systems. Every day, my students are learning academic skills alongside communication, independence, emotional regulation, and executive functioning skills that help them become confident learners.

The materials in this project will help create a more engaging, organized, and student-centered learning environment where students can access instruction in meaningful ways.

The dry-erase number line boards will provide students with hands-on math practice during small groups, intervention lessons, and independent work. Many of my students learn best when they can physically manipulate, write, erase, and visually see mathematical concepts repeatedly without the pressure of making mistakes on paper.

The large dry-erase wall decal will transform part of our classroom into an interactive learning space where students can participate in movement-based instruction, whole-group modeling, visual schedules, collaborative problem solving, and sensory-friendly academic activities. Having a large reusable workspace allows students to actively engage in learning instead of simply sitting and listening.

Organization is also critical in our classroom because clear systems reduce anxiety, support independence, and help students successfully navigate daily routines. The wall file organizer, storage containers, and grading stamps will help keep materials structured, accessible, and easy for students and staff to manage. Organized systems allow us to spend less time searching for materials and more time focused on instruction, communication, and student growth.

In our classroom, every tool serves a purpose beyond academics. These materials will support executive functioning, independence, confidence, and student participation while helping create a calm and structured learning environment where all students can succeed.
