My Students
My students are kindergarten and first grade English language learners. They come from diverse backgrounds, speaking several different languages. However, they lack the vocabulary, background knowledge, and oral language skills that are necessary in order to learn how to read and write. They love to listen to read aloud and use hands-on manipulative in order to explore language and learn. My students enjoy coming to school because it gives them the opportunity to experience and learn about things that they would otherwise not be exposed to.
My Project
The big books will engage students by capturing their attention with large, colorful, and fun illustrations. The students will develop their oral language skills by using the props for each story. Most of all, students will be developing their language in a FUN and ENGAGING way! It will expose them to classic stories and give teach them about a variety of topics from colors to dinosaurs and farm animals. Learning basic vocabulary is crucial for English language learners. These bigs books would be the perfect addition to our classroom and our students would look forward to reading them each week!
