Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I serve a community of 25 inner-city children who come with many barriers. I want to create a loving environment where they feel safe and ready to learn. Every student has the ability to learn and deserve an education.

What I love about my students is they do not allow their personal encounters to affect their determination and their willingness to learn.

My students strive to be and do their best which pushes me to go beyond my best. I want to expose them too so many more positive experiences because they are so deserving. I strive to be the best influence, educator, and role model that I can truly be.

My Project

Please help me to introduce my Kindergartens to a world of reading and literacy through Big Books!!! This will expose the students to many learning opportunities that will follow them into first grade. The pictures in the big books will help the students focus their attention and follow the story as they are learning to listen.

Big books are exciting to children and are a fun way for them to experience books.

Big Books are vitally important for young students as they strive towards independent reading which they will be exposed to in Kindergarten. With these Big Books, I will be able to do a shared reading which will enhance their phonemic awareness and concepts of prints.
